Blessed with some of the very best countryside on the continent, France is a fantastic choice for an outdoor escape. This ever-popular holiday destination has so many distinct and diverse regions that are particularly noted for their charming countryside.

In the north of the country, the stunning regions of Normandy and Brittany offer a blissfully bucolic place to spend a camping holiday, where visitors can explore rolling countryside featuring quaint villages and hamlets. Travelling south, the rural sprawls of the Pays de la Loire and Central-Val de Loire are saturated by the gently flowing waters of the eponymous river, and feature an abundance of captivating castles and chateaux that sprout gracefully from the green countryside.

In the east of France, the Grand Est region features amazing Alsace and the departments of beautiful Burgundy-Franche-Comté are drenched in nature. One of our favourite places to enjoy a rural retreat is the French Alps, where foothills feature woodlands and rivers, and can be enjoyed from the regions of Auvergne and Rhône-Alpes.

In the south of France, there’s little doubt that Provence is a stellar destination for a countryside camping break. The popular region features enchanting countryside and nostalgic villages surrounded by lovely landscapes. Other fantastic regions for a rural escape in France include the Dordogne, Ardeche , Limousin and Midi-Pyrénées.

In Italy, rolling vineyards and green valleys decorate the beautiful terrain of Tuscany, a region befitting of a truly memorable countryside holiday. There is much to laud in the Emilia-Romagna region, as well as the surrounding area of the famous Italian Lakes.

In Germany, the Black Forest is a stunning place to enjoy woodlands, where mystery and a sense of magic await. Switzerland offers alpine countryside at its finest, especially in lovely lakeside settings such as Interlaken.

A camping break in the countryside invites holidaymakers to savour the freedom of nature. The landscapes of rural regions offers so much activity, from relaxing recreation to adrenaline fuelling adventure.
