Things to do when camping in Loiret

Book a camping holiday in Loiret and get set for adventures in the midst of stunning nature, discovery in the department’s alluring towns and villages, and riveting day trips to marvellous castles, fortress and chateaux of the Loire Valley.

With a rich natural heritage, Loiret has several places that can boast dreamy landscapes, bracing fresh air and peaceful ambiances. One such place is the Sologne region, a vast expanse of woodlands and ponds where visitors can enjoy walking and cycling trips, while appreciating a diverse array of flora and fauna. Offering walking and cycling trails, Orléans Forest is divided into three mountain areas: the Massif d'Orléans, Massif d'Ingrannes and Massif de Lorris. The National Arboretum of Barres is an exceptional woodland area featuring over 2,500 different species of trees from no less than 5 of the world’s continents.

Along with stunning areas of natural heritage, Loiret wows visitors with a selection of horticultural havens noted for a blooming marvellous assortment of colourful flowers and verdant plant life. The best among them is the Parc Floral de la Source Gardens, a stunning set of landscaped gardens with iris, roses, dahlias and vegetables as well as an exotic butterfly house and aviary. The equally beautiful Grand Courtoiseau Gardens, located in Triguères, features an array of themed gardens, ponds, water fountains, lime trees and immaculate hedges.

Like many other departments of the Centre-Val de Loire region, Loiret is home to numerous castles and chateaux of esteemed beauty, history and heritage. We’d recommend visiting Château de Sully-sur-Loire with its exquisite paintings and tapestries, Château de La Ferté-Saint-Aubin with its stunning stables and Château de Chamerolles with its interesting perfume museum.

The chief city of the department, and indeed the wider Centre-Val de Loire region, is Orléans. There’s a wealth of cultural and historic tourist attractions to take in on a visit here, such as the Sainte-Croix Cathedral, Beaux-Arts museum, FRAC Centre, Maison de Jeanne d'Arc and Place du Martroi.

There are several age-old villages and towns to discover on a camping break in the department, namely the inviting town of Gien with its traditional earthenware and International Hunting museum, Beaugency with its Romanesque abbey and Meung-sur-Loire with its medieval gateway of Amont.

If you still have some spare time after enjoying all or some of the above, you can visit one of the many other tourist attractions here such as Fleury Abbey, Cléry-Saint-André basilica, Montargis and the Briare aqueduct.
