The area surrounding Casas de Montejaque
Montejaque is a typical Andalusian village located in the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. This is one of the greenest natural parks in the whole of Andalusia, which also boasts a colony of griffon vultures. The diverse landscape, with its wide range of flora and fauna and the impressive rock formations of the limestone mountains, is the perfect place to go hiking. Discover secret grottos with cave paintings and underground rivers. Be inspired to discover more at the local museum.
Furthermore, Montejaque belongs to the ”White Towns of Andalusia” (the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos), which run right through Andalusia. These villages, characterised by whitewashed houses and narrow alleys, were built by the Moors and partly date back to the 8th century. The mountain top city of Ronda also belongs to the White Villages. The local sights include the historic old town (‘Ciudad Vieja’), the church Santa María la Mayor as well as the ‘Puente Nuevo’ Bridge that is situated above an 80 metre deep gorge that runs right through the middle of the city.
