Camping Saintes Grandes Rives

On summer days, the pool is a wonderful place to cool off. No slides or bombery, just a fine rectangular pool where you can enjoy bobbing, playing or swimming laps. It is clear and well-maintained, ideal for families with children of different ages. There is no separate children's pool for the little ones, but with swimming straps and supervision, there is fine fun to be had.

Eéone of the best surprises of the campsite? Its location on the river én the opportunity to go on the water yourself. There is a boat ramp, and you can rent canoes or kayaks at the campsite itself. Paddling down the Charente together is a relaxing adventure – past old bridges, trees hanging over the water, and you might even spot a heron at its post.

The strength of this campsite and its simplicity and cosiness. You will not find a busy animation program here, but wél plenty of space to play, relax and meet each other.

For the children, there is a playground with a slide, climbing apparatus and swings on springs, right next to the picnic area –clear and safe. In addition, there are plenty of sports facilities: a minigolf course, two ping-pong tables, a jeu-de-boules court, and even a Homeball field (for soccer and handball) and a volleyball court. Perfect for active teens or parents who like to join in for a while themselves.

Inside there is a common room with a small bar-cafétéria, where you can’t go in the morning for fresh bread, coffee and hot drinks. During the day, it's a place to rest, read or play a board game together. There is a television, wifi, a book corner and a game closet. A microwave is available to heat something up yourself.

There is no in-house restaurant, but you won't miss it at all – the centre of Saintes is within walking distance and is full of cosy bistro’s, ice cream parlours and terraces. Ideal for an impromptu dinner or a quick bite to eat with the kids.

The location of this campground is what makes ‘m so special. You walk to the centre of Saintes, a charming town with Roman remains, fun markets and a laid-back atmosphere. Climb the tower of the cathedral, visit the amphitheatre or stroll along the Charente. 

Sports-minded families are perfect here, too. Saintes is on the Flow Vélo, a beautiful long-distance cycling route that takes you through sunflower fields, past vineyards and along quiet country roads. Whether you take a short trip or a full day out, there is always something new to discover.

The Château de Panloy in Port-d’Envaux – a beautiful Louis XV-style château with guided tours for young and old.

The marshes of the Seugne at Courcoury – perfect for a relaxing bike ride.

The village of Chaniers, where you'll stop for an ice cream or a picnic.

And as icing on the cake: Guinguette du Port du Lys in Salignac-sur-Charente, an atmospheric spot by the water where you'll be rewarded with a cold drink and local delicacies.
