Camping Etche Zahar

Water rats can have a blast at this cosy family campground. The small but fine pool is uncluttered, ideal for families. You don't have to worry about losing sight of the kids as they jump off the edge or make endless swims.

For the little ones, there is a shallow toddler area, where they can splash and play. And let's face it: with such's sun over your head and the smell of pines around you, it's great to be here. Many guests take ’s fresh dip in the morning, while the children are already busy playing with their new vacation friends.

Fancy even more water fun? The river Adour is nearby. You can have a picnic together on the bank, kebble stones or even take a boat ride nearby. A lovely change on hot days!

What makes Camping Etche Zahar so special is the personal atmosphere. The owners live on the property and are incredibly involved. There is some playground equipment for younger children to have fun on, while you watch from your seat with a cup of coffee or a good book. 

From 4 p.m., you can enjoy a drink or ice cream under the plane trees by the pool. ’In the evening, snack bar “La Grange” serves local dishes and drinks. Order fresh bread and croissants before 7 p.m. for the next morning. 

And for daily necessities? At the campsite, you can order fresh bread for the morning, and in the village of Urt (just a few minutes' walk), you'll find a bakery, a small supermarket and a couple of nice restaurants.

The location of Camping Etche Zahar is truly a gift. You're in the middle of the Basque Country, with everything at your fingertips: mountains, sea, rivers and fun excursions for the whole family.

A day at the beach? Biarritz and Anglet are just a 30-minute drive away. Long sandy beaches, high waves and cosy beach bars: perfect for sandcastles, bodyboarding and eating ice creams overlooking the sea.

Also a must: a ride on La Rhune's small mountain train. This cog railway takes you slowly up to the top of the mountain, where you have spectacular views of the ocean and the Pyreneesën. The kids love it! About an hour's drive, but well worth it.

For those who love animals, the Labenne Zoo is a half-hour drive away. Or visit the quaint village of Espelette, famous for its red peppers and colourful facades. There's a market somewhere every day, where you'll find local cheese, fruit and handmade souvenirs.

Sports-minded families can indulge themselves with hiking trails in the hinterland, bike rides along the river or an afternoon canoeing on the Nive or Adour.
