Truffles from Perigord

A beautiful flowing river runs through the Dordogne, with hills full of ancient villages, small towns and castles, mountains, peaceful areas and plenty of space for a relaxing holiday! The capital  of the Dordogne department, Périgueux, is in the heart of the region and a wonderful city to explore. The region around the city the French themselves call Perigord and it is a truly wonderful area.

Cliffs, castles and caves of Lascaux

In the southeast, around the town of Sarlat, you will find the ‘Perigord Noir’. This is the classic part of Dordogne with limestone cliffs, castles such as ‘Beynac’ or ‘Castlenaud’ and picturesque villages of ‘Domme’ and ‘Laroque Gageac’. You will find the world famous caves with stalagmites and stalactites, and even prehistoric paintings - the replica of Lascaux is a must. Around Bergerac you will find again the ‘Purple Perigord’, famous for its wines.
