Camping Ramstein Plage

Water is the common thread of vacation here. The campground is located by a pond (lake), so for a natural swim, all you have to do is grab your towel. Getting your feet in the water for a moment, kettling pebbles, or going for a quiet swim together: it's all possible, hassle-free.

In addition, there is a heated outdoor pool, open from late May to mid-September. As of June, this is the place where kids make friends fast and you finally have a moment to sit back. The pool is located in a green setting, so it doesn't feel “crowded and tiled” but is a nice holiday oasis. And with that pond attached, you have two kinds of water fun: splashing in the pool én natural swimming at the lake.

The summer holidays here is all about having fun together. For children aged 6 to 12, there is a Kids Club, Monday through Friday, from the beginning of July to the end of August. Think crafts, outdoor games, scavenger hunts and mini discos. Kids are busy having fun, and you don't have to be the animator of the family all the time.

There's plenty to do outside the Kids Club, too: multi-sports field, playground, table tennis and, of course, petanque. In July and August, there is daily entertainment and evening activities, such as pétanque and sports tournaments, an apéro quiz and concerts. These are those evenings when you say, “We'll check it out,” and you end up sticking around because it's just plain fun.

Practically, it's also right there. There's free wifi, a barbecue area and tourist information at the campsite. There's also a laundromat (always nice with kids) and a snack bar during the summer (from early July to late August, 6 days a week). And a bar-restaurant makes it extra easy to enjoy an occasional meal instead of cooking for yourself.

If you like hiking, you are in the right place. There are several trails in the area, such as the Zittersheim 12 Springs Trail and the Chestnut Tree Trail. Expect forest trails, viewpoints and those kinds of hikes where children suddenly want to keep walking because there is always “something to see”. With a little luck, you will spot deer, roeën or special birds.

Fancy some action with the family? Just steps away are Warrior Spirit (adventure park) and La Forêt des Défis (climbing course). Perfect for older children who have energy to spare and for parents who secretly want to be quite tough too.

Trips are also plentiful. The thermal station Niederbronn-les-Bains is about a 14-minute drive away: great if you're treating yourself to a wellness moment. For a cultural outing, there's the Lalique Museum, where you'll discover the world of crystal and design. And a real treat for history buffs (and kids who like to wander through corridors and stairways) is the Bitche Citadel, 18 minutes (15 km) from the campsite. 

Camping Ramstein Plage is ideal if you're looking for nature, water and a lively summer schedule, without being massive. Here, kids get dirty feet and happy faces, and you go home feeling like you've really been away.
