Camping Apollonia

For water lovers, every day is a party here. The campground pool is wonderfully refreshing on hot days and just big enough for a refreshing dip or a game of dip with the kids. Sun loungers are set up at the edge in the shade of a few trees – perfect for cracking open a book while your kids have fun in the water. There is also a shallow area where toddlers can splash safely.

But the best part? The beach is less than a ten-minute walk away. Plakias Beach is wide, long, nice and quiet. Even in high season, there's plenty of room to roll out your towel without your neighbors poking at your toes. The water is crystal clear and slopes slowly, so it's ideal for children. And be sure to bring your snorkel, because the rocks are home to curious fish. Fancy something adventurous? You can also rent a kayak or SUP board nearby.

At Camping Apollonia, everything is about the fine, casual holiday feeling. You walk on your flip-flops to the campsite's cozy tavern, where 's freshly cooked Greek dishes appear on the table in the evening – the souvlaki here is to lick your fingers. The kids? They have long since formed a group of friends and play until it gets dark in the playground or on the lawn.

Although there is no entertainment, it feels like ééone big family here. The campground has a small mini-market for your daily shopping én fresh bread in the morning. And do you fancy an ice cream or an ice-cold frappé? The bar is always ready for you. You can tell from everything: this place is run with love, and you can feel it in the details.

Plakias itself is a charming village where you can enjoy wandering around. On the main street, you will find taverns, ice cream parlors and quaint stores selling local products. Be sure to try a piece of fresh feta with honey from the market or buy a bottle of olive oil from a local farmer.

If you want to get out and about, you are in the perfect place. An absolute must is the beach of Preveli, famous for its palm trees and the small river that flows into the sea. You can drive there in less than half an hour and the walk down – along the rocks – is an adventure in itself.

Also nice: a trip to the mountain village Spili, with its fountains, old alleys and cozy terraces. For an active day, explore the Kourtaliotiko gorge. This gorge is close to the campsite and is a true paradise for hikers and nature lovers. You can hear the flowing water, see birds, goats on the rocks én impressive views.
