Things to do when camping in Côtes d'Armor
As Brittany boasts over 2700km of coastline, it’s no surprise that many of the best things to do in Côtes d'Armor involve the seaside. Pleasant fishing villages offer amiable ambles while striking pink granite cliffs provide the backdrop to scenic hikes and blissful beaches are primed for typical days out by the sea.
While the coastline is decorated by many picturesque towns, we’d recommend that the fishing port of Saint‑Quay‑Portrieux sits at the top of your itinerary. A mixture of fishing ports and lovely beaches, the town is well known for its procurement of delicious scallops as well as many other sumptuous seafood delights including sea bass and mackerel.
As the port lies on the extensive GR®34 long-distance footpath, you’re guaranteed amazing views of the sea if you decide to walk or hike along the coast. Lazy days on the beaches at Plage du Casino and Plage du Châtelet are a hit with holidaymakers, as are sea kayaking or boat trips out to the islands just offshore.
Swap scallops for oysters when you visit the stunning Plougrescant peninsula, a ruggedly beautiful area with emerald green waters and a plethora of charming little ports. One of Brittany’s most historic towns, Lamballe has impressive half-timbered houses, the spectacular 15th century Maison du Bourreau and the Breton Postiers stud.
With a waterside harbour, charming streets and lovely landscapes, the beautiful town of Tréguier is worth visiting just to see the Cathedral of Saint-Tugdual, a stunning example of gothic style architecture. In the heart of the Rance Valley, holidaymakers can experience the romance and importance of the royal abbey of Léhon.
While enjoying a camping holiday in Côtes d'Armor, lovers of the great outdoors will feel right at home in the glorious confines of the Les Gorges du Corong, a fantastic national park with enchanting woodland, scenic trails, streams and Neolithic standing stones.
Back on the coast, the striking pink granite cliffs of Ploumanac'h are likely to be the highlight of most walking and hiking trips in the region. In Perros, families can indulge in a range of water sports or lazy days socialising on fine sandy beaches.
Other notable tourist attractions that deserve special mention in Côtes d'Armor are the rarely inhabited Les 7 îles, the ruins of Abbey Beauport, Phare de Men Ruz Lighthouse, Château de la Roche-Jagu, Castle Hunaudaye and Lake Bleus, to name but a few.
