Things to do when camping in Eure

With a natural heritage to rival anywhere in France, and a slew of culturally rich attractions and towns, the popular holiday destination of Eure offers campers with a diverse selection of things to do. Explore captivating landscapes in the morning and discover magical villages etched with nostalgia in the afternoon.

For those of us that love to immerse ourselves in nature, there’s no better place to spend a day than the lovely Lyons Forest, one of France’s most beautiful beech groves. Located close to the scenic town of Lyons-la-Forêt, this magical woodland extends over 10,000 hectares and features a network of paths and trails that are easily traversed on foot or by bicycle.

Shared with the neighbouring department of Seine-Maritime, the Norman Seine River Meanders Regional Nature Park is a verdant sprawl of lovely landscapes decorated by the Seine River, green meadows and pastureland, quaint farm buildings and plenty of walking routes. With numerous rural museums including the House of Apples and the Clog Maker’s House, the park is a great place to appreciate the bucolic beauty of the department.

In the heart of the Norman Seine River Meanders Regional Nature Park, the Vernier Marsh is a sprawling peat bog and an area of ecological interest. The standout features of the marsh include traditional thatched buildings, highland cattle and an abundance of flora and fauna.

The department has more than its fair share of pretty towns and villages, with stunning examples found dotted throughout the terrain. In Évreux, the capital of Eure, holidaymakers can explore a picturesque town dominated by gothic architecture and several tourist attractions including the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Church of St. Taurinus. Other scenic villages worth consider for a day trip include Vernon, Pont-Audemer, Vieux-Port and Les Andelys.

A must-see attraction of Eure, especially for those who love art, the House of Claude Monet features tours of the artist’s living spaces, as well as the wonderful waterlily studio and gorgeous water gardens. The house is located in Giverny, which is also home to Museum of Impressionism and Chateau de Bizy.

There are plenty more tourist attractions of note in Eure, with special mention going to Champ de Bataille Castle, Bec-Hellouin Abbey, Harcourt Arboretum, Beaumesnil Castle and Vascoeuil Castle. If you intend to enjoy a camping holiday in Eure with the kids, there are a few child-friendly things to do such as Biotropica Animal Gardens and Le Bois des Aigles Birds Of Prey Park.
