Things to do when camping in Haute-Savoie

A camping holiday in Haute-Savoie captures the spirit of adventure, exploration and discovery. There’s so much to see and do in the great outdoors of this splendid destination of France.

Boasting the accolade of Europe’s cleanest lake due to its glacial origins, Lake Annecy is the ideal place for a variety of water sports such as water skiing, kayaking, diving, sailing and fishing. The surroundings of the lake are perfect for scenic walking and hiking trips.

At the northern tip of the lake, the eponymous town of Annecy has a few notable highlights for visiting tourists that include the Pont des Amours Bridge, Palais de l'Isle Island Prison Museum, Château d'Annecy and Musée du Film d'animation Museum.

The department has a busy winter season due to the fabulous ski resorts in the area, but the beauty of the mountains and high alpine landscapes are equally popular in the warmer months of the year. Reaching an elevation of 4810m above sea level, the majestic Mont Blanc is a favourite among both walkers and experienced climbers who venture up the mountain for rewarding views of the department.

Lying halfway between the peak of Mont Blanc and the blue waters of Lake Annecy, the Aravis mountain range and surrounding area offers tourists the chance to walk and hike through lovely scenery. The range features lush landscapes of mountain plateaux, cliffs, alpine forests and rivers. Stunning natural landscapes can also be found at Aiguilles Rouges Regional Nature Reserve.

There are several picturesque towns scattered throughout the department, and we’d recommend a day trip to at least one for an insight into the culture and way of life in Haute-Savoie.

The spa town of Évian-les-Bains is very well known throughout the world for its mineral water and has several worthwhile attractions to keep you busy. Along with the Villa Lumière, Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, the Palais Lumière and Pre-Curious Water Garden, it's definitely worth taking a ride on the towns' Funicular.

Sitting on the scenic shores of Lake Geneva, Yvoire is a medieval town steeped in history and nostalgia. Highlights of Yvoire include Château d'Yvoire, The Garden of Five Senses, Plage d'Excenevex beach and Domaine de Rovorée park and gardens.

A camping trip to Haute-Savoie places you within easy reach of Geneva, so consider hopping over the border to seek out lovely dining and shopping experiences, as well as visiting Geneva Water Fountain, St Pierre Cathedral and the Palais des Nations.
